Oily Hair Quick-Fix

It’s 7:00 on a Monday morning and you’re getting ready for work. You wake up, brush your teeth and wash your face, and grab your beloved bottle of dry shampoo. The container is empty. Worst nightmare, right? There is absolutely NO way you can shower before work. So what do you do when you’re in need of an oily-hair quick fix?

**This may be one of those times where you actually thank your toddler for helping you with your beauty mishap!**

The Best Quick-Fix: Baby Powder

Believe it or not, BABY POWDER is the greatest dry shampoo replacement in a crisis! It’s the best way to get your ten second shampoo in without your little bottle of magic.

All you need to do is find a fluffy brush, dip it into a pile of baby powder, and sprinkle it onto those greasy, un-showered locks of yours. And voila! Crazy volume, and no more shine.

You can still look this fabulous even though you’re compromising!

Wedding After-Hour Beauty To-Do’s

You’ve been planning the “big day” for how many months now? Well, all your planning is finally coming together today! Take these Wedding After-Hour to-do’s to help you unwind after the event.

You haven’t had an adequate amount of sleep for the last two weeks because you had to make sure you got plum ribbon for the center pieces instead of mauve. You haven’t eaten a home cooked meal, washed your hair, or done laundry in a week because you still haven’t gotten the caterer’s to confirm they’ll have enough silverware for all of your guests.

Your time has come to walk down the aisle and you’re ready to FINALLY just have a good time. You say “I do”, dance until your feet are literally ready to fall off, and then it’s just you and your new hubby.

But, you’re not done yet. I know, I know all you want to do is kick off your heels and go to bed, but you can’t!

Tip 1

Take off ALL of your makeup.

Tip 2

Wash your face because we know you didn’t NOT break a sweat in that hot tight, sexy dress of yours during the Wobble.

Tip 3

Moisturize. Just do it. You and I both know it’s one of the most important steps to gorgeous skin.

Tip 4

Brush your hair.. It’ll be a lot easier for what’s next… But save all of those bobby pins, Lord knows your vacuum doesn’t need to suck up anymore.

Tip 5

Take a shower, and actually wash your mane, please. You have enough dry shampoo and hairspray in your hair if somebody lit a flame twenty feet away, your hair would be the first thing it’d catch.

Tip 6

Last, but not least, brush your teeth. Burping up fresh mint is a lot more appealing than shrimp cocktail. Leave stank-breath for the morning.

Never EVER sacrifice beauty for being tired, even if it is your wedding night.

Stay Lovely!

Summer Sun Skin Protection

Sunscreen is a major must-have during these exuberantly sunny summer months. Skin protection should always be in mind, especially during the summer when our sun exposure increases and is almost unavoidable.

Sunscreen that has an SPF is the best choice. In my house, the only choice. Without SPF you’re basically applying expensive lotion. Ridiculous.

According to Dictionary.com, SPF stands for;

“1. Sun Protection Factor: the effectiveness of suntanning preparations in protecting the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, as rated on a scale of increasing protectiveness from 2 to 15 or sometimes higher.”

SPF is what blocks the harmful UVB (ultraviolet B) from entering your skin, but CANNOT block UVA (ultraviolet A)  rays. UVA rays are those that go deep into the skin, while UVB rays affect the outer skin layer.

“Sunscreen with the highest SPF is always the best!”   -Everyone EVER

Well what do you know. What you have been told your WHOLE life is a lie. Let me explain with a little science:

As said by these specialists, SPF 30 sunscreen is only 3% more effective at blocking UVB rays than an SPF 15 sunscreen blocking 94% of UVB rays emitted. Beyond SPF 30 the protection percentages are BARELY higher… We’re talking tenths and hundredths of a percent higher. Most dermatologists recommend SPF 30 because it blocks almost all of the UVB rays it can, and there really is NO sunscreen that offers 100% protection.

Another pointer on the topic of sunscreen; always apply sunscreen at least one hour prior to sun exposure. That one hour gives your skin time to absorb the sunscreen to give you maximum protection. Also, reapply sunscreen every hour for the best results. Nobody likes a sunburn, so keep on lathering up with that SPF!

In case of sunburn, treat with aloe vera lotion and avoid further exposure to the sun until your skin can heal. Over exposure to the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays can lead to sun spots, which can become skin cancer without proper prevention and treatment. Pretty serious stuff, so always always always wear sunscreen when having fun in the sun! Have an amazing, hopefully sunburn-free summer, lovelies!

Summer Skincare: Lather Up Lovelies!

The sun can be a real treat to your skin considering all of the vitamin D you’ll absorb. Although, we all know exposure to the sun for too long isn’t very lovely without the proper prep.

When in the summer heat, you need to moisturize. I cannot stress this enough! Moisture is what keeps your skin looking young. Without having routine moisture, your skin will dry out causing premature wrinkles and sun spots, both of which aren’t very pretty but can easily be prevented. We prefer finding a moisturizer or body lotion that is natural so you won’t be absorbing any kind of harmful chemicals that could further damage your skin.

Sun On Beach

Keeping your skin hydrated is partly by how much water you consume. The more water that is circulating through your body, the more moisture your skin will have naturally. But a little extra help from shelf products never hurt!

Coconut oil might just be what you are looking for if you’re on a budget and trying to find a natural moisturizer. Now just because it’s an oil does NOT mean it’s slimy and greasy. Coconut oil is more of a dry oil, so you just rub it in until it is fully absorbed into your skin. Also, it has an SPF of 6; not much but every bit of protection helps! Coconut oil can also help clear up common skin irritations like razor burn, KP’s, and eczema. Who knew, right?

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can be found in any grocery where all of the other oils and non-stick sprays are located.

Lush Vanilla Dee-Lite Body Lotion

Lush Vanilla Dee-Lite Body Lotion

Lush’s Body Lotions are natural, non-greasy moisturizers that are reasonably priced and handmade. Lush is also 100% vegetarian and helps fight against animal cruelty. Plus, their products are amazing! What’s not to love about them??

Another part of keeping your summer skin beautiful is by exfoliating. Exfoliation helps scrub away the dead skin, dirt, sweat, and pollutants that like hang out in your pores. And remember, after you exfoliate MOISTURIZE. You especially want to exfoliate right before you tan so you’ll have an even, sun-kissed glow rather than a splotchy mess!

Hair Blunders

We all want that luscious, bouncy, frizz-free, movie star hair, right?!? The way we wash, dry and style our hair can seriously affect its appearance.  Take care of that pretty hair of yours and steer clear of these five bad habits…

  1. Being too much of a clean freak. When you wash your hair daily, you strip away all of your good natural oil–when it’s constantly washed it sends a signal  for your scalp to produce more oil. Try a dry shampoo instead.  You’ll notice the difference–just be patient.
  2. Not brushing before you wash. Ohhhhhhhhhh so that’s why my wet hair is so dang tangled!  Wet hair is weak hair so it’s certainly more prone to damage if it’s wet when you brush.
  3. Haphazard Conditioning. Using too much product is counter productive because it weighs down your hair and can lead to buildup…yet another reason why you can’t get that hair “Texas big”.  Try using less and not using as much at the roots.
  4. Skipping Heat Protection. Okay, we all know it’s best to not blow-dry or use hot tools at all, but hello we want Blake Lively hair! If possible, try to let your mane air dry naturally as often as possible and then only blow dry when it’s 75% dry. Start with a good heat protectant like Moroccan Oil Heat Spray. Smells amazing and it’ll protect your hair from that wand or hairdryer.
  5. Using Hot Irons on Damp Hair.   Doi. Hair should be completely dry before heat styling, period. Even when you’re in a rush.

Banish Winter Skin Blues

Our recent bone-chilling temperatures and dry air can sometimes contribute to dry skin–even our regular moisturizers just don’t make the grade.  Made with Pure Argan Oil, this mild milk fortifies and renews even the driest, most sensitive skin, working its magic deep into the cellular level. A deliciously rich but whisper-light moisturizer, it does a face good. It’s a bit on the pricy side but if you need the extra boost without feeling oily, you’ll love it.

If you’re a daily washer, that’s cool, but if not you have got to try Dry Bar’s Detox Dry Shampoo. Not only does it smell delicious, but it gives you the BEST, bouncy, J Lo hair.
